Lisbon Transportation System
On this page you will find information about the main venue of this year’s International Organizations Career Development Roundtable, proposals for accommodation, displacements and others useful tips for the city of Lisbon.
The metro reaches most of the city center and most touristic attractions. It is widely spread and highly efficient. It consists in 4 lines:
- Red: São Sebastião – Aeroporto (Airport)
- Yellow: Odivelas – Rato
- Green: Telheiras to Cais do Sodré
- Blue: Amadora Este – Santa Apolónia
Passengers with reduced mobility should check the Metro network map in advance to make sure both departure and arrival stations are fully accessible. We also recommend checking beforehand the operating status of existing lifts and escalators by contacting Metro Call Centre ((+351) 213 500 115).
You can find the accessibility diagram here.
To travel with the Metro you’ll need a (reusable) electronic travel card (Viva Viagem – about the same size as a bank card) loaded with a valid ticket. Always keep the travel ticket intact until crossing the exit gates and show it to the ticket inspectors whenever requested.
Where can I buy it? On the Metro network, the Viva Viagem card can be purchased and loaded on Ticket Vending Machines and Ticket Offices inside the stations.
Keep the purchase/load receipt with you, as you will need it in case of card malfunction.
